Brian Trammell

My current research interest is the evolvability of the Internet: how can new protocols be successfully deployed in such a widely distributed system? This work involves measurement of the deployed Internet, protocol architecture, and economic considerations as well. I'm a member of the Internet Architecture Board, chair of the hInternet Engineering Task Force (IETF) IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) working group. I'm active in standardization within the IETF, mainly at the transport layer. I'm also a part-time member of the Network Security Group at ETH.

Prior to my work at ETH, I've worked on privacy-preservation and transparency in network monitoring tools at Hitachi Europe, led the engineering team at CERT Network Situational Awareness at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute, and worked as a software engineer in various short-lived startups in Pittsburgh and Atlanta during the dotcom bust.
