Automating power measurements of network devices

Datasheets provide very coarse-grained information about the power drawn by network devices. In order to improve the energy efficiency over time, we need finer-grained data. The simplest way to get such data is to directly measure the power drawn by a device’s power supplies.

The goal of this project is to build a power measurement set comprising everything required to collect power measurement data with minimum overhead. This includes integrated a power meter together with an embedded computer (such as a Raspberry Pi) that controls the measurement, aggregates data and displays ongoing experiments.
